Sherisse is a warm, empathic and highly skilled psychologist and group facilitator. With 15 years’ experience as a psychologist in clinical and organisational settings, Sherisse creates a safe and supportive space where clients can explore issues and develop insight and skill to enable them to live more fully. Clients describe Sherisse as non judgemental, knowledgeable, outcome focused and empathic.
Sherisse holds Honours, Psychology, UNISA, 1999 and was admitted in 2004, to the Australian Psychology Board. Before opening her private practice in Bondi Junction and Sydney CBD in 2004, she was a psychologist at The Sydney Clinic Mood and Anxiety Disorders Unit. She also worked in an Eating Disorders Unit. Previously she was an organisational psychologist in Human Resources and with Cisco Systems.
Sherisse has a special interest in mindfulness based approaches. This developed when she was facilitating a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Program (mindfulness based) at the Sydney clinic. She was inspired and driven by the profound transformative power of mindfulness practice and the possibilities it presents and continues to be inspired by the exceptional outcomes mindfulness approaches can deliver. Sherisse also has an interest in helping clients who struggle with binge eating and bulimia nervosa and has recently introduced an excellent binge eating program to her practice.
Trained in MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and ME- MB (Mindful Eating, Binge Eating)- Sherisse is on top of the latest research in psychology and human behaviour.
Sherisse has gradually introduced mindfulness based group programs to her practice. These include Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression and Mindful Eating -Binge Eating. These programs are grounded in research and are effective for treating depression, anxiety, stress disorder, binge eating disorder and bulimia. Many clients opt to see Sherisse individually and attend a group program.
Whether seeing clients individually or working with a group, Sherisse’s work is grounded in her own formal mindfulness practice which brings authenticity, joy, awareness and continued learning to her work
